Position Details
We are seeking an independent, service-oriented individual who will take initiative and contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science and Applied Statistics at the University of Lethbridge.
The Linux System Administrator (SysAdmin) will be responsible for keeping the Department’s network of Linux Servers and Workstations up to date and running smoothly with the target of 100% uptime.
The Math/CS Linux Network of computers is a unique system at the University of Lethbridge, in terms of scope (150+ machines) and composition. In contrast, most of the computers operated at the UofL outside our department are Microsoft Windows or Apple Macintosh based systems.
This role is critical to the delivery of BSc. Computer Science degree program. On occasion, this position also supports other departments that need to operate on Linux platforms.
Position Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a BSc. In Computer Science or applicable experience. Prior experience working in the Co-op Assistant System Administrator position is highly desirable. Other desirable traits include:
  • Familiarity with the current course offerings, particularly their Lab components.
  • Intimate knowledge of Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Distros.
  • Experience with the Specification and ordering of Servers and Workstation hardware.
  • Experience with Troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of Server and Workstations.
  • Experience with the LDAP directory system (389 DS, OpenLDAP).
  • Experience with Enterprise Level Backup and Recovery systems.
  • Familiarity with ProxMox VM systems.
  • Familiarity with the Ansible software for provisioning, configuration management, and application deployment.
  • A working knowledge of the BASH Scripting language.

The successful candidate:
  • Must be a proven problem solver
  • Possess strong organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Must be self-starting and able to work with minimal supervision

The ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with faculty, staff and students is essential. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $4,772.00 - $5,403.00 monthly
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $4,772.00 - $6,034.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 11)
