Position Details
International Student Services (ISS) is responsible for providing opportunities and support services that strengthen and enhance international students’ learning at ULethbridge. We have a team of four international student advisors (two at each campus) and are expanding our services at our Lethbridge Campus with the addition of this new position.

Reporting to the Manager, International Student Services, International Student Advisors support international students through advising services and transition programs. 
The successful candidate will provide integrated advising to support international graduate and undergraduate student conversion, retention, and success, specifically in the areas of:
  • International student immigration
  • Health insurance 
  • Settlement in Canada
  • Personal wellbeing 
  • Cultural transition
International Student Services works collaboratively with internal and external partners to offer services and advocacy.

International Student Advisors (ISA) are also responsible for the design, implementation, and delivery of retention and support services for international students admitted to the University of Lethbridge.

Main tasks and responsibilities:
  • Supporting enrolment management efforts, particularly with newly admitted and current international students on both U of L campuses.
  • Maintaining a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of immigration regulations and policies for international students and providing immigration advising services within the scope of practice of a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA).
  • Providing confidential support, guidance and advocacy for international students related to mediating institutional roadblocks and cultural unknowns, maintaining lawful immigration status in Canada, personal issues, and employment rights.
  • Managing complex cases involving students’ immigration, wellbeing, and other matters.
  • Conducting detailed research; interpreting legislation, regulations, and policies; and defining practices for ULethbridge.
  • In collaboration with the International Student Engagement Coordinator, designing, implementing, coordinating, and delivering New International Student Orientation and pre-arrival webinars prior to the commencement of academic semesters.
  • Supporting the International Student Engagement Coordinator in the implementation of socio-cultural programming to support retention of international students.
  • Liaising with various University of Lethbridge service and academic units, the City of Calgary, and various stakeholder groups.
  • Providing leadership, guidance and support to University of Lethbridge faculty, staff, and volunteers responsible for assisting international students.
  • Fulfilling obligations to CICC and remain in good standing as a RISIA (or RCIC).
Position Qualifications
  • Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and at least three years of related work experience, ideally working in positions related to international student support in a post-secondary institution. Student advising experience is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian immigration legislation, policies and regulations specifically related to international students, their family members and dependents
  • Be a member in good standing of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) as a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA), or RCIC (required).
  • Previous experience should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication, organization and time-management, attention to detail and computer skills.
  • Familiarity with the international student experience and needs.
  • Experience developing orientation and transition programming at post-secondary level.
  • Demonstrated dedication to excellence in international students support services.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence.
  • Expertise in designing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs, large events, and workshops.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams and to develop effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Ability to manage the complexity inherent within a multi-faceted work environment focused on broad outcomes for students.
  • Overseas work/study experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of additional language(s) preferred.
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $5,291.00 - $5,990.00 monthly
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $5,291.00 - $6,687.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 12)
