Position Details
The Faculty of Education is seeking THREE (3) dynamic scholars and educational leaders whose body of academic work demonstrates in depth knowledge and understanding of the relationship between theoretical knowledge, clinical skills, and professional practice to provide high quality preparation of professionals in counselling psychology. The individuals should be experienced counsellor/educators, and collaborative colleagues for one of three fulltime tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Clinical and Counselling Psychology.

Academic duties include: (i) teaching graduate courses, supervision of individual students in a clinical setting, and assessment of student work); (ii) research and other original scholarly activities, as well as professional activities that contribute to a larger discourse; and (iii) other contributions to the University and scholarly communities.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills
Qualifications include a doctorate in Counselling, School, or Clinical Psychology. Applicants who are nearing completion of their doctoral degree may be considered. Applicants should be eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists. The successful candidate must have the ability and interest to teach courses in the following areas and possess the ability to contribute to the exciting growth and development of the Master of Counselling and Master of Education in Clinical and Counselling Psychology.

The ability to teach in online, face-to-face, and blended formats, and the ability to integrate innovative technology into teaching will be an asset for this position. As a destination university, prospective applicants are expected to relocate to Lethbridge, Alberta to support students and actively engage in our university culture.

Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Counselling Ethics, Diversity, and Culture in counselling service delivery.
  • Black, Indigenous, Persons of Colour, LGBTQ2+ mental health counselling.
  • Psychological assessment and/or quantitative methodologies.
  • Psychopathology and Diagnosis (across the lifespan).
  • Counselling Theories.
  • Counselling and Addictions.

2. A detailed academic curriculum vitae including the names and contact information for three referees.
3. A teaching philosophy statement that clearly articulates the applicant’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization.
4. A research philosophy statement, including the applicant’s methodological and theoretical expertise most relevant to this position.

The Faculty of Education offers two cohort-based graduate-level counselling psychology programs which are in high demand and are approved programs with the College of Alberta Psychologists. This includes the blended-delivery Master of Counselling (MC) program, as well as an on-campus Master of Education (MEd) Clinical and Counselling Psychology program.
