Position Details
The University of Lethbridge Information Technology Services Department is seeking applications for the position of Database & Systems Administrator.  This is a full-time, continuing position located at our Lethbridge campus. Preference will be given to candidates who will work some portion of this role at the Lethbridge campus, but we will also consider hybrid work arrangements for Alberta-based candidates where visits to the Lethbridge campus would be less regular. 

Reporting to the Director, Applications, the Database & Systems Administrator is a capable and versatile professional with a broad background in creating, maintaining and enhancement of database systems. This individual will evaluate existing and emerging technologies, liaise with various University constituents, and assist in designing and implementing reliable, responsive, secure, and cost-effective solutions related to the University’s database services portfolio. 

This position is responsible for day-to-day operational tasks such as database and systems performance analysis, corrective action, proactive tuning, maintenance, patching, administration, and backup and recovery across the entire enterprise application infrastructure. This position will administrate other facets of the technology stack, such as operating system patching, scripting and troubleshooting, as well as implementing and maintaining Apache Tomcat, basic network rules, etc.

Position Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: 
  •     Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent 
  •     5+ years of related work experience 
  •     Proficiency with Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL administration.  Experience with OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) would also be an asset 
  •     Proficiency in Linux and Windows Server administration  
  •     Experience with automating or scripting of system or database administrative tasks 
  •     Experience with networking concepts around firewall rules and network routing 

The incumbent must possess strong organizational, communication and project management skills, and must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision. Strong written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with faculty and staff is also required. 

A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required for this position. 
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $61,413.10 - $77,258.06 annually
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $61,413.10 - $93,103.02 annually (APO - Grade 3)
