Position Details
Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Deputy Provost will play a pivotal role in the University’s academic leadership team. With a strong strategic vision and skill for collaboration, the Deputy Provost will have the opportunity to influence the University’s strategic direction, including oversight of academic quality assurance and new program development, Institutional Analysis, International, the Teaching Centre, and the Calgary Campus. The Deputy Provost will embrace innovation, they will support opportunities to enhance teaching and learning and research through emerging technologies and pedagogical practices, while contributing to the sustainability and growth of academic programs. This role will be responsible for supporting institutional planning and administration in all aspects of the academic operations, involving students, faculty members, academic and support staff, alumni, members of the governance committees, and staff associations.

The Deputy Provost will help to bolster the university’s position as a leader in higher education by empowering students to excel in their academic journey while making meaningful contributions to our global society. They will guide academic planning, and ignite initiatives that elevate teaching, research, and student success. The Deputy Provost will also support the implementation of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging principles into the University’s overarching strategy, and champion Indigenous engagement, reconciliation and Ways of Knowing across the campus. As a key partner within the University, the Deputy Provost will work together with academic Deans, faculty members, and key constituents to forge partnerships and align academic programs and strategic goals.

The successful candidate will possess a PhD or professional graduate degree, or comparable terminal degree in their discipline, and is seen as a recognized leader in their field. They are known as a dynamic leader with strong strategic acumen, exceptional interpersonal skills, and an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The ideal candidate will have experience in government relations, metrics for evaluating post-secondary institutions and have been in a senior role as an academic leader including Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chair, or Director of a centre or institute, or similar academic structure.
