Position Details | The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a tenure track position in Statistics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin, subject to budgetary approval, either January 1, 2024 or July 1, 2024. Hiring salary will be in the range of $79,132-$92,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the potential to develop a research program in their area of specialty. It is preferable they have a Ph.D. in Statistics (or a related area) at the time of appointment. There are several departments and programs within the university with which collaborations could be possible (e.g. Data Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Economics, Geography & Environment, Kinesiology & Physical Education, Mathematics & Computer Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, Faculty of Health Sciences and the Dhillon School of Business). Candidates are invited to share their interest and capability to work or collaborate with any of these groups or with Industry. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses within our Applied Statistics program. As such, experience with both large service courses as well as more senior courses is valued. Furthermore, the candidate should have the desire and capability to contribute to the development and curriculum of our Applied Statistics program. We are seeking a candidate with an interest in mentoring undergraduate students including through the supervision of independent studies. Any mentorship experience, academic or otherwise, is an asset. An interest or past involvement in outreach is also welcome. Finally, the successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the advancement of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; ideally this would be apparent in all aspects of the application. Our Team: The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has an enthusiastic faculty focus on experiential learning, and our students benefit from undergraduate research supervision and co-op opportunities. Among other programs the department offers an Applied Statistics program which specializations in the areas of Economics, Psychology and Geography.
