Position Details
The Senior Network Analyst – Wireless is part of a team that is responsible for the Universities network infrastructures. The Sr. Network Analyst – Wireless assists in designing, implementing, and maintaining the networks including campus (user) wired, wireless, data centre, and core technologies with a focus on the wireless infrastructure. The Sr. Network Analyst utilizes multiple toolsets to ensure optimum performance and assist in troubleshooting.
The Sr. Network Analyst – Wireless works with vendors and other peers to research emerging technologies as stay abreast with best practice across the protocol stack. The Sr. Network Analyst – Wireless works with other decentralized IT units, faculty, staff, and students in the integration, maintenance, and problem resolution of network services with a focus on user experience.
Position Qualifications
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A bachelor’s degree in computer science is required. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.

Experience: Ten+ years of computer networking infrastructure experience is required.

Skills:
  • A thorough understanding of wireless infrastructure and protocols, layer 2 and 3 networking protocols, multicast, DHCP, DNS, IP address management and network monitoring software is required.
  • The ability to solve network-related problems by using device diagnostics and troubleshooting techniques is required.
  • A thorough understanding of network protocol stack (OSI, TCP/IP) as well as networking equipment such as routers, switches is required.
  • Proficiency with Cisco wireless infrastructure including campus fabric is preferred.
  • The ability to understand and follow technical instructions, both verbal and written is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
Effort: Requires working at computer workstations for extended periods of time and requires regularly lifting and carrying objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally up to fifty pounds. Requires sufficient mobility to replace networking equipment and connect cables in ceilings and wiring centers which may require climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
Other: This position may be required to be available evenings and weekends to respond to network outages and after-hours upgrades. Occasional travel to remote sites may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teamwork:
  • As a member of the Network and Telecommunications team, assure that the University’s networking requirements are met with the highest level of performance and reliability.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff (e.g. coaching, mentoring, skills development, troubleshooting, decision-making).

Design:
  • Be an integral part of the network design team keeping up with industry trends and best practices, suggesting product and technology direction based on that knowledge.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of wireless technologies on the campus with a focus on user experience.
  • Responsible for documenting procedures and guidelines needed for the development, installation, and maintenance of wireless network solutions.

Implement:
  • Work with the University Procurement Team to prepare and evaluate bid specifications for the purchase and maintenance of network hardware, software, and services.
  • Work with Vendors/VARs in the process of product selection, pricing, order, and delivery.
  • Work with the Networking team to schedule and implement networking infrastructure.

Maintain:
  • Maintain the integrity of the wireless networks by installing, upgrading, and maintaining wireless LAN controllers, wireless access points, keeping the up to date with current software and firmware as provided by the manufacturer.
  • Maintain and manage authentication and network policy systems on both physical and in virtual server environments as they pertain to wireless infrastructure.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of network routers, switches, and other devices at current software/firmware as provided by the manufacturer.
  • Use network monitoring software and systems to detect conditions requiring corrective action or performance tuning.
  • Take a proactive approach to plan and organize upgrades as well as maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure accurate records are kept of network components and configurations, maintenance activities, network connections, and inventory.
  • Work with vendors to diagnose and resolve network problems as required.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the IT Services team by performing all other duties as assigned.

Professional Development:
  • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing contacts with colleagues, attending development courses, and attending training courses as required.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $60,505.52 - $76,116.32 annually
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $60,505.52 - $91,727.11 annually (APO - Grade 3)
