Position Details
The University of Lethbridge, Horns Recreation Services is currently accepting applications for Lifeguards and Swimming Instructors to join our team.

These are casual positions with flexible schedules, and we welcome applicants who are available to work throughout the year. Please note that we may hire applicants at any point during the summer based on our needs, and interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis. We are seeking skilled individuals who possess excellent customer service skills, the ability to work collaboratively with individuals and a team. Communication skills are a must, and a positive, professional, and safety-conscious attitude will make you a great fit. As a swimming instructor, you will be responsible for teaching students of varying ages and proficiency levels. You will use your expertise and creativity to develop lessons that meet the needs of each individual participant, while also promoting safety and fun in the water. Candidates must be 18 years of age.

These positions report to the Manager of Aquatics and are responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and positive environment.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of patrons
  • Addressing safety issues proactively and tactfully, administering first aid and lifesaving when needed
  • Instructing swimming lessons, preparing lesson plans and progress reports
  • Assisting with pool maintenance and equipment checks, performing light cleaning duties
  • Completing assigned administrative tasks
  • Perform manual tasks requiring physical exertion, including getting a 20lb brick from the bottom of the 4.5m dive tank

HIRING SALARY:
Starting wage is $19.71/hour. In addition to the starting wage, applicable shift differentials apply. If assigned to instruct, you will receive an additional $1.00 per hour. If scheduled to work on weekends, you will receive an additional $2.00 per hour. If scheduled to work during evening hours, you will receive an additional $2.00 per hour. Shift differentials are cumulative.

HOURS OF WORK:
Flexible with availability and willing to accommodate for the success of both parties.

Position Qualifications
  • Lifesaving National Lifeguard Certification
  • Intermediate First Aid Certification (Must be Alberta Workplace Approved, previously named Standard First Aid)
  • Lifesaving Swim for Life Instructor Certification
  • Optional: Lifesaving Instructor Certification

Successful candidates must provide a Vulnerable Sector check within 30 days of hire.
