Position Details | The University of Lethbridge, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Music, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in musicology and/or ethnomusicology at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2023. For more information about the Music Department, the University of Lethbridge, or the city of Lethbridge, please visit our websites at: About the position The University aspires to hire an individual for this position who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and research and has the potential to participate in the development of the musicologies area, and who will also contribute actively to the promotion and profile development of the Department of Music and the Faculty of Fine Arts. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the core musicologies sequence as well as upper-level topic courses. Teaching duties in other areas of the Music Department will be assigned depending upon the candidate’s secondary expertise. Given that the Music Department is currently working towards redesigning its musicology/ethnomusicology curriculum, experience with, and interest in, developing new courses within the broadly defined musicologies area is considered an asset. These changes are intended to bring the curriculum more in line with the current state of the discipline, and as such candidates specializing in any area of musicology, ethnomusicology, or a closely related discipline are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the M.A. Music and/or M.Mus. graduate programs, and to contribute through service to the ongoing activities and governance of the Department of Music, the Faculty of Fine Arts, and University community. A completed doctorate is preferred. Applicants who are ABD and/or nearing completion of their degree or those with commensurate professional experience will also be considered. “Commensurate professional experience” refers to a substantial career as a researcher and/or performing artist with an equal reputation as a pedagogue at the post-secondary level.
